Pretty Please
This time last year, I was in Baltimore with my friend Ginger seeing our favorite childhood band, The Jonas Brothers. Even though live music has made a comeback to small, local venues, like The Birchmere, Jammin Java and Tally Ho Theater, stadium tours are still canceled for the time being. While nothing can replace the atmosphere and feeling of being surrounded by thousands of people singing along to the same songs, this Friday I’ll be tuning into a virtual Dua Lipa concert. Her 2020 album Future Nostalgia was pumping throughout my house while in quarantine and has been keeping my spirits high all year long. A Gustatory Staycation
The last two years, I was in Glasgow, Scotland then Brno, Czech Republic for Thanksgiving. I prefer for my celebrations to be alone or with a close friend, thousands of miles away from a turkey dinner. Obviously that isn’t happening this year, but in terms of what I eat, I’ll keep up my tradition. I’m planning to dine on some Asian food from this list for the big day. Even if I can’t travel to Myanmar or India right now, I can dine like I’m there. – Alice Levitt, food editor/critic
Lighting Up
The entire holiday season is obviously going to be a little different this year and honestly I’m still not sure exactly how my family will celebrate. What I do know is that we are continuing to go to outdoor events as long as our cold fingers and toes can stand it. So I’m marking my calendar for as many of these tree lightings as I can. There’s just something about twinkling lights and some merry music that makes all seem right with the world for a moment. – Katie Bianco, editor
