5 Ways to Enjoy Professional Sports this Fall

From golf and race cars to basketball and skateboards, here’s how to finally soak in some sports this season.

By Michele Kettner September 4, 2020 at 12:22 pm

The sports world came to an abrupt halt back in March when the coronavirus pandemic shut down everything from March Madness to the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. Now that some leagues have cautiously resumed play, sports fans can finally cheer on their teams again. With the “new” Washington Football Team’s home opener set for Sept. 13 against the Philadelphia Eagles—and the rest of the NFL set to return to prime time this month—that’s just the start. Here are five other ways to get your sports fix this fall.

  1. MLB returned to action in late July and the 2020 MLB Postseason is just on the horizon, despite COVID-19 outbreaks on some teams. As the shortened season comes to a close, the Washington Nationals (minus Ryan Zimmerman, who opted out of the season) look to defend their first franchise title as the team enters the postseason.
  2. Boogity, boogity, boogity, let’s go racing! Nascar is back in Virginia with the Federated Auto Parts 400. Pack up the car and take a trip down I-95 for 300 miles of racing under the lights. // Sept. 12, 7:30 p.m.; Richmond Raceway: 600 E. Laburnum Ave., Richmond; $25-$120
  3. Gamers rejoice! After 20 years of waiting, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is returning to shelves. This remastered version will feature crisp HD images, the original skating roster, including Hawk and Bob Burnquist, along with new skaters, tricks and levels. // Release date: Sept. 4; available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC; $39.99-$49.99
  4. The hunt for the green jacket continues this November as the 2020 Masters Tournament returns to Augusta, Georgia this fall. Usually held the first week in August, but postponed this year because of the pandemic, fans can expect to see Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson competing for the coveted title. // Nov. 9-15, tee times vary
  5. The WNBA Washington Mystics will be looking to defend their 2019 championship title during the WNBA Playoffs being held this September and October. All WNBA teams will be playing their regular season and playoff games at IMG Academy in Florida.
