George Mason’s Gunston Hall is reopening this August

While the grounds are currently open for visitors, the historic mansion, visitor center and museum shop will reopen in early August.

By Jess Feldman July 22, 2020 at 4:10 pm

The majority of summer camps have shuttered their programming this season, leaving Northern Virginia families on their own to find innovative ways to spend long summer days under the sun in the midst of a global pandemic.

Yet in the coming weeks, families will have the chance to get educated and informed all in one fell swoop, as George Mason’s historic Gunston Hall is reopening its amenities and group tours on Monday, Aug. 3.

While the grounds opened for the public in mid-July, as part of the organization’s phased reopening plan, the mansion, visitor center and museum are reopening next. Mansion tours will resume, giving visitors a deep look into the history of the space, as well as all-day access to the grounds, outbuildings and visitor center.

For those who would rather get involved from the comfort of their homes, Gunston Hall is continuing its Learning from Home programming. The entire online page includes activities to keep everyone in the family entertained, ranging from classes on how to make 18th-century punch to gardening tips. Plus, Virtual Summer Saturdays will continue, featuring livestream events focusing on food of the past, archaeology, hands-on games and more for youngsters. // 10709 Gunston Road, Lorton
