Tysons Corner kicks off its summer drive-in movie series

This summer, you have the chance to enjoy classic, family-friendly films from the comfort and safety of Tysons Corner Center’s new drive-in setup.

By Jess Feldman July 10, 2020 at 2:58 pm

Despite it being a new decade, 2020 has left many of us nostalgic for a simpler time due to the ongoing spread of the coronavirus. While some have turned to handwritten letters or in-person walking dates for solace, others, including a few Northern Virginia businesses, have brought back the existence of drive-in movie theaters.

The newest organization to join the old-school trend? Tysons Corner Center, in partnership with the Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner Center, with the inception of a summer drive-in movie series featuring three family-friendly classics.

All three showings—The Sandlot, Aladdin and Mrs. Doubtfire—will take place on Fashion Boulevard in the parking lot between Nordstrom and Bloomigndale’s. While the first showing on Friday, July 10 is sold out, the second two, taking place on Friday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Sept. 12 respectively, are now available for reservations. The drive-in officially opens for guests at 6 p.m., yet showings do not begin until 8:30 p.m., giving attendees the chance to grab a bite to eat in the mall or enjoy live music set up outside the space.

Plus, should you wish to make a donation of $25 before or during the event, all proceeds will benefit local nonprofit Second Story, which provides food, shelter and support to vulnerable community members impacted by COVID-19.
