Mary Lambert, a Seattle-based musician and spoken-word artist, is coming to George Mason University’s Center for the Arts on April 2.  Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for faculty and staff and $10 for students.

She is a young, up-and-coming artist who found success in her contributions to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’  song “Same Love.”

Lambert has since gone on to release her single “She Keeps me Warm” in 2013, and just one year later she released her 2014 album “Heart on My Sleeve.” Her songs are considered emotionally poignant, and she encourages people to  discuss their emotions through spoken word poetry and song.

Lambert, as a new artist on the world stage, does everything she can to connect with her fans. Every week on her blog she has a “feelings Friday” poetry prompt that she asks her fans to respond to. Here are a few of the most recent ones:

1) Write a list poem. Start every sentence with the same phrase.

2) Write about your uninvented invention.

3) Write a poem to your younger self.

She also jump-started the #MarySecrets Postcard, based off her song “Secrets,” where fans can anonymously share their innermost thoughts and emotions with strangers.

Her voice performances are noted for being a place where everyone feels welcome. The GMU Center for the Arts is exactly the kind of venue that a personable singer-songwriter like Lambert needs.

Come see Lambert before her fanbase is so large you’ll have to fight just to get tickets to a performance.
