You Can Dance If You Want To

Get fit to a fancy beat. Northern Virginia Magazine has a dearth of dance studios where you can get down.

With the New Year behind us, so is the enthusiasm for all those resolutions we made. But don’t give up. Who says that exercise has to be boring? Learn to dance, or keep dancing, with the encouragement of a group and shake off the day’s calories. Whether you want to go to exercise dance studios, or master some new fancy footwork, we’ve got your destinations right here.

Sensazão

Sensazao’s Dance Fitness class is its own unique style of group exercise similar to a Zumba class. Sensazão Dance Fitness blends strong and authentic dance moves to new music that just makes you want to dance.  Dance Fitness is its most popular class, and runs throughout the day. Prices for classes are: $7 for one class, $30 for five classes, or $100 for 20 classes. Landmark Mall, 5801 Duke Street Suite B108 Alexandria, 22304.

 

Chakaboom Fitness

According to Chakaboom Fitness’ website, its name means “energy from the heart.”  Chakaboom features not only its own Dance Fitness classes with Brazilian influences, but specifically designed low-impact classes using Kagoo Jumps. Chackaboom Fitness claims Kagoo Jumps can reduce joint impact while increasing calorie burning efficiency. Prices for classes are: $7.19 for one session, $67.82 for 12 sessions and $102.75 for 20 sessions. Born 2 Dance

Whether you are looking to dance as a hobby, a sport or something a little more serious, Born 2 Dance Studio has an option for you.

If you’ve always wanted to learn the proper technique for styles like belly dancing, the Salsa and others, the Technique and Choregraphy classes are for you.

There are also dance fitness classes like Zumba for those who just want to dance the calories away.

The final category is the performance class, which will allow students the chance to perform at the studios semi-annual show. Prices vary based on style of class. 305 Maple Avenue, W. Vienna, 22180.

 

Kamp Pendleton

If you’re looking for a traditional Zumba class, try Kamp Pendleton. It has more of a gym atmosphere, offering a multitude of training programs which cover every body type and intensity level. Prices vary based on program. 10780 Parkridge Blvd. Building #5 Suite #25 Reston, 20191.

 

Workhouse Arts

Sometimes its okay to be casual. If you want to go out ballroom style on a Saturday night, but are just looking to have fun dancing the night away, Workhouse Arts offers Social Ballroom every third Saturday of the month. Before the dance at 8 p.m., there is a 30-minute lesson on the style of the night. This week features the Bolero style. Complimentary refreshments will be provided with a bar available. The dress code is casual, but don’t let that stop you from being as fancy as you want. Prices are: $5 for the mini lesson at 7:30 p.m. $10 for the dance. 9601 Ox Road, Lorton, 22079.
