Find a New Dog-Themed Bookstore in Downtown Fredericksburg

Tales & Tails combines your love of books, coffee, and dogs in one place.

By Michele Kettner June 9, 2025 at 12:12 pm

If you can’t turn down a good book or resist petting a dog, we’ve found your new favorite store. In downtown Fredericksburg, a new dog-themed bookstore, Tales & Tails, is welcoming both book lovers and dog lovers alike.

Owners Christine Bowman and Hunter Burkin officially opened their new store on May 24. The husband-and-wife team combined their passions to create a go-to spot for people who love books, coffee, and dogs.

As you browse the shelves of the new bookstore, you’ll find your favorite genres along with dog-themed books and merchandise for adults and kids. There are plenty of reading spaces including the kids’ area with stuffed animals, meeting and study rooms for book clubs and other events, and a coffee counter with baked goods, pup cups, and dog treats.

For readers who want to bring a furry friend to the bookstore, head to the dog-friendly patio. The area is equipped with a dog stick library, a bin of tennis balls, water bowls, and mobile ordering from the café. Only service animals are allowed inside the bookstore due to health department regulations.

The bookstore is not only a place to pick up your next read as you enjoy a cup of coffee. Tales & Tails has partnered with Fredericksburg SPCA and Old Dominion Humane Society to bring awareness to dogs up for adoption. The store will also be hosting pet adoption events in the future.

Tales & Tails is open every day but Tuesday. 1010 Charles St., Fredericksburg
