Tom Beckbe, a retailer specializing in outdoor gear and apparel, is coming soon to NoVA. The Alabama-based brand announced that it will open two new stores this fall: one in Middleburg and one in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
There’s no official opening date for the Middleburg store yet, but it’s expected to open in late September or early October.
“Expanding our retail presence in Virginia and Alabama is a significant milestone for us,” said founder Radcliff Menge. “We’re excited to bring our brand to new communities, where we can share our passion for quality craftsmanship and timeless design. These new locations will allow us to connect more directly with our customers and become a part of these storied regions.”
The No. 1 product is the Tensaw Jacket, which, according to the website, was Menge’s inspiration for starting the brand. The waxed canvas jacket was “designed for rugged sporting wear and equally suited for life outside the woods.” It’s available in men’s and women’s styles.
Other products include leather and canvas bags, clothing, and hunting and fishing gear.
The store will have a full collection of sporting apparel and gear, “perfectly suited for the sporting and equestrian lifestyle of Virginia’s Piedmont region,” according to a news release.
And no, Tom Beckbe is not actually a person. The name references the Tombigbee River in Alabama, which European settlers, borrowing from the Choctaw name itumbi ikbi, called Tombecbé.
The new store will be located at 2 W. Washington St. That’s the site of the Noble House, a building that dates back to the 1820s.
The brand has two existing retail stores, in Mountain Brook, Alabama, and Oxford, Mississippi. This will be the first Virginia location.
