Trader Joe’s is expected to open in West Springfield next month in the spot where Whole Foods Market was.
The company said last week that it did not have a timeline yet to share, but a photo posted on Facebook showed a sign outside a Trader Joe’s that said it would open in September. A call to the existing Trader Joe’s in Springfield Plaza indicated the new grocery store 3 miles away on Old Keene Mill Road could open around September 12, if everything at the store is completed.
The new location will be at 8402 Old Keene Mill Rd.
In addition to West Springfield, a Trader Joe’s is under construction at 506 Fort Evans Rd. NE in Leesburg. That store also is expected to open in fall.
According to Trader Joe’s website, 21 stores are “opening soon” across the U.S. The other stores are in California, Texas, Florida, Idaho, Utah, Oregon, Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Washington, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
The Whole Foods that left the Old Keene Mill Road location after more than 25 years relocated to Springfield Plaza last October in the spot where Giant had been. The shopping center also has a larger Giant where there was once a K-Mart.
Also relatively new to Springfield Plaza is the Container Store. It opened at 6412 Springfield Plz. on June 15. Another location opened July 27 at One Loudoun. The Container Store now has six stores in Virginia.
