Sportsman’s Warehouse, an outdoor specialty retailer, opened its largest store in the U.S. in Fredericksburg on Thursday.
“The new location, where Gander Outdoors was previously at 3708 Plank Rd., will be our biggest store in the country with 70,000 square feet of space,” said Tara Clements, Sportsman’s Warehouse regional manager, in a news release.
The retailer, which now has 146 locations and opened its first store in 1986, has three other Virginia locations in Winchester, Lynchburg, and Roanoke.
Similar to Gander Outdoors, it sells fishing, camping, hunting, hiking and other, high-quality outdoor gear and accessories. Gander closed most of its stores after Camping World Holdings, Inc., acquired it in 2017.
The Fredericksburg Sportsman’s Warehouse has more than 60,000 items from major brands, including Orvis, Shimano, Plano, Rapala, Yeti, Huk, Killik, Rustic Ridge, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Sig Sauer, Benelli, Vortex, Merrell, Crispi, and Zamberlan.
The store is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
As part of its grand opening, which runs through Saturday, the first 200 customers each day get a free Sportsman’s Warehouse hat and gift card (one per family). There will be in-store sweepstakes for gift cards and a chance to win a guided Utah elk hunt through a sweepstakes.
The chain’s website also has a grand opening drawing for prizes.
