Middleburg’s Top Shops Will Turn Out For Its 15th Summer Sidewalk Sale

The annual event, held this year from August 6 to 8, brings a treasure trove of finds for bargain hunters.

If you need to take the kids back to school shopping,  just want some spiffy new digs for post-COVID outings, or are inspired to freshen up your home decor, the tree-lined sidewalks of a local town in horse country is just the spot to get your retail fix.

Middleburg is hosting its 15th annual Summer Sidewalk Sale on August 6 to 8, when shops and boutiques on Washington Street, Madison Street and Federal Street will offer discounts on clothing, shoes and home goods, while restaurants will serve up specials.

The event, sponsored by the Town of Middleburg and the Middleburg Business and Professional Association, runs all three days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and on Sunday as posted by the shops. Look for colorful balloons located outside participating shops.

If you’re a fashionista looking for shoes, clothing or accessories, browse at spots like Tully Rector, Lou Lou Too, C.D. Ridgen & Son Country Classics, Moda Lookbook, J. Mclaughlin, and Chloe’s of Middleburg.

Other specialty shops offering unique items include pottery, ceramics and linens at Crème de la Crème, gifts and collectibles at The Christmas Sleigh, children’s clothing, party goods, and decorative gifts at The Fun Shop, toys at PLAYroom, lingerie at Le Boudoir, needlepoint items at Stitch, and equestrian gifts and riding gear at The Tack Box. Community on Madison Street will be holding a consignment sale that weekend, and Emmanuel Episcopal Church will be selling both new and used items from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

If you need to fuel up during your shopping expedition or want to settle into a table to peruse your haul, head to one of the town’s restaurants located along Washington Street and Federal Street, some of which also offer outdoor dining and curbside pick-up. Options include contemporary American food at The Red Fox Inn, Thai cuisine at Thaiverse, coffee and tea at Cuppa Giddy Up, scoops at Scruffy’s Ice Cream Parlor, sandwiches at Middleburg Deli, King Street Oyster Bar, or Red Bar Sushi. Cap off the day by sipping a libation at Mt. Defiance Cidery & Distillery, Old Ox Brewery, Gold Cup Wine Bar, or Wild Hare Cider Pub.

And if you care to turn the event into a little weekend staycation, The Red Fox Inn, Goodstone Inn, and Salamader Resort & Spa are all accepting reservations.
