Occoquan is hosting a series of pop-up artisan markets this summer

The markets, running over three spring weekends, promise open-air shopping, music, and fun.

Strolling the boutiques of historic Occoquan always makes for a fun afternoon. For a few weekends over the next few months, the quaint riverside town will also be the place to find unique items from visiting artisans.

On May 8 and 9, June 5 and 6, and July 10 and 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Occoquan Artisan Markets will take place in River Mill Park. Overlooking the Occoquan River, the park was selected since it’s a beautiful venue that’s also large enough to allow vendors and guests to spread out for social distancing.

Vendors for the events are still being finalized, so check the website closer to the show you are attending for an updated listing. In May, you can shop for items from artisans including Bent Grass Designs, Chasing Art Dreams Shop, Earlusion, Gift & Gather, Hitchcock Paper Co., KEBaubles Jewelry, Nonlinear Bags, Potomac Candle, Season’s Soap Shoppe, The Missing Piece: Pottery by Emily Garner, and Urban Jule.

Admission to the Artisan Market is $5 for those over 12, which is valid both days that weekend and includes the chance to win prizes in three free giveaway drawings each day. Tickets can be purchased online or at the event. A limited number of VIP packages for two including more than a $50 value include an exclusive Occoquan market tote, dedicated parking space, entry fees, and drinks.

Non-profit organization Patriots for Disabled Divers will host a tent selling snacks and beverages; Ballywhack Shack and The Spot on Mill Street will also have grab-and-go food packs available.

The town’s streets will remain open to the general public and street parking is free. For those wishing to park off-site, there will be a free shuttle circling from the VDOT lot at Route 123 and Old Bridge Road to the park both days of each market.

Occoquan hopes to return to the two-day arts and crafts show in its original format this fall. For more information, check the event website.
