M.M. To Go
While New York-born brand M.M. LaFleur has been outfitting professional women since 2011, it wasn’t until last fall that the company expanded its reach with a to-go concept, first in the Big Apple and more recently in DC’s Union Station. The intimate space (currently planned as a pop-up until July) features a variety of last-minute pieces—think cashmere sweaters and statement earrings—made with on-the-go businesswomen in mind. // 50 Massachusetts Ave. NE, Suite M113, Washington, DC

Allbirds
At the end of February, Georgetown welcomed San Francisco-based startup Allbirds, known for its sustainably made sneakers, to retail hot spot M Street. In addition to the brand’s original styles made of wool and eucalyptus, the new location offers a limited-edition shoe paying homage to the District, inspired by the region’s cherry blossoms. // 3135 M St. NW, Washington, DC

Patagonia
Calling all outdoorsy types: Patagonia officially opened its first-ever Virginia location in the heart of Alexandria in March, taking the place of the historic Old Town Theater. The outdoor retail company has pledged to maintain the energy of the site by hosting frequent events, screening films and offering the space as a gathering place to support environmental nonprofits working to benefit planet Earth. And, of course, you can find the brand’s latest selection of outdoor clothing and gear, just in time for summer adventures. // 815 ½ King St., Alexandria

Aveda Arts & Sciences Institutes
Beauty mavens of Northern Virginia now have a space to learn and shop all things cosmetics, thanks to the Aveda Arts & Sciences Institute. The Ballston Quarter location is scheduled to open this spring, featuring a state-of-the-art creative studio for those interested in pursuing a career in cosmetology or esthiology, as well as a full lifestyle retail area for passersby. // 671 N.
