Wife of Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Shot in Ashburn Home

The couple’s son has been arrested and Mia Bieniemy is now in stable condition.

Elijah Bieniemy, son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, allegedly shot his mother, Mia Bieniemy, on Sunday night at the family’s home in Ashburn.

Loudoun County police responded to reports of a shooting on Sunday evening, LCPD announced in a news release. LCPD did not identify the victim but said an adult woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. ESPN reported that Mia Bieniemy was shot in the chest and arm.

Elijah Bieniemy, 27, was arrested and charged for malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling.

Eric Bieniemy left the Chiefs training camp in Missouri and was not at Monday’s practice. Chiefs coach Andy Reid addressed the situation after a practice on Monday.

“Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family. Thoughts and prayers with them,” Reid said. “I can’t get into details on it, but things happen sometimes, and Eric will work through it. He has a great support group here, as does his family, as needed, and we’ll just let time take care of it from there. But Mia is stable, which is a plus.”

Elijah Bieniemy is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. Police say the investigation is ongoing, “and there is not believed to be any threat to the public.”
