Watch Life-Size Animal Statues ‘Migrate’ to Virginia’s New Kalahari Resort

The new resort is getting ready to open in fall 2026.

A herd of life-size safari animal statues is making its way through Virginia on its way to the upcoming Kalahari Resort in Spotsylvania. The public can view these realistic sculptures along the route.  

The new resort, located just off I-95, opens on November 12, the company announced this week. Once completed, the facility will have more than 900 guest rooms, a 175,000-square-foot indoor water park, and a 10-acre outdoor water park. 

With the Safari Migration, the public gets a chance to see the safari-themed resort’s handmade, lifelike statues of elephants, zebras, and other animals as they make their way toward the resort. The caravan of eight semi-trucks left Arkansas on Tuesday and will reach its final destination in Spotsylvania on Friday, April 17.

When it lands in Spotsylvania, the sculptures will be lifted by crane and installed on the exterior of the resort. 

At stops along the way, viewers will get to see the statues up close, take photos, and learn more about the upcoming resort. It will also include a sweepstakes participants can enter for a chance to win a future Kalahari vacation.

Thursday, April 16 

  • 10 a.m.–noon, Williamsburg Premium Outlets, 5715 Richmond Rd., Williamsburg 
  • 4:30–6 p.m., Tanger National Harbor, 6800 Oxon Hill Rd., National Harbor 

Friday, April 17 

  • 10 a.m.–noon, Kalahari Resort Spotsylvania, 5510 Morris Rd., Spotsylvania 

Kalahari also offers a live migration tracker to track the trucks in real time.
