These Are the 10 Most Popular Baby Names in Virginia

Plus, see the month and day of the week that had the most births.

For many soon-to-be parents, naming your baby can be a tough decision. When it comes to the 96,683 babies born in Virginia in 2025, many parents stuck to trending favorites.

Liam and Charlotte topped the list of the most popular in the state, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

Charlotte has been the top girls name in the state since 2020, while Liam has been the top boys name since 2019. While the popularity of other names varies from 2024, the only new addition to the list is Elizabeth at No. 9 on the girls list.

Here’s the full list of most popular boy and girl names in the state. 

Boys

  5. Henry
  6. William
  7. James
  8. Elijah
  9. Lucas
  10. John

Girls

  1. Charlotte
  2. Emma
  3. Sophia
  4. Olivia
  5. Amelia
  6. Isabella
  7. Evelyn
  8. Mia
  9. Elizabeth
  10. Eleanor

Month and Day

The top names aren’t the only trends of 2025. The Virginia Department of Health also noted that August was the month with the most births with 8,310, while November was the least with 7,111. September 5 was the day with the most births with 351. Wednesday was the most common birthday with 15,144 births; Sunday was the least common with 9,314.
