A former Loudoun County Public Schools substitute teacher has been convicted of making death threats, Loudoun Now reports.
Hadyn James Dollery, 19, was found guilty of two counts of threatening to injure or kill a person, one count of making threats on school grounds, and one count of threatening to damage a building. He was found not guilty of a third threat charge.
Prosecutors said that Dollery, who goes by the name Sophie, made the threats the day after one of the victims ended their relationship with him.
The threats included plans to kill the victim and the victim’s family, as well as Dollery’s own family. Dollery also said he would go on a “murder spree” at the victim’s school. And that he would cannibalize one of the victims after killing them.
The threats were made via the online platform Discord. They sparked extra security at both Eagle Ridge Middle School, where Dollery worked, and John Champe High School, the target of the threats, after law enforcement deemed them credible.
Dollery was arrested four days later. Prosecutors said investigators found a box cutter in his backpack. Phone records, they said, showed he also searched Google about “blood.”
The defense argued that prosecutors were taking Dollery’s messages out of context.
Dollery faces up to 25 years in prison. He is expected to be sentenced in the coming months.
