National Harbor will be getting a Las Vegas–like landmark. A new, smaller-scale Sphere entertainment venue — similar to the one in Vegas — is in the works.
The proposed National Harbor venue would be the second in the U.S. and the first smaller-scale Sphere. It would have a capacity of 6,000 seats and host original Sphere experiences plus concerts and brand events.
The Sphere’s immersive experiences use high-resolution LED screens, surround sound, haptic seating, and 4D environmental effects. The venue’s exterior LED display will advertise its programming and branded content.

“Maryland has a long history of providing world-class entertainment and we could not be more excited to work with Sphere Entertainment to bring this cutting-edge project to life,” Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said in a release. “This will be one of the largest economic development projects in Prince George’s County history — proving once again our state is the best place in the country to bring dreams to life. We’re excited for what this means for our people, and how it will showcase the best of what Maryland has to offer to everyone who visits.”
The National Harbor Sphere project will be funded by a combination of public and private investments, according to a Maryland state news release. Funding includes approximately $200 million in state, local, and private incentives.
The project would create approximately 2,500 jobs during the construction phase, and 4,750 jobs once it’s operational. The venue is expected to generate millions in additional revenue for Prince George’s County and the state. Maryland is estimating the new Sphere at National Harbor will generate more than $1 billion annually.
