The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) has concluded its 2025 Road Shark campaign. During the program, FCPD issued a total of nearly 50,000 citations for unsafe driving.
FCPD and the Virginia State Police have collaborated on the annual initiative since 1999. The combination of high-visibility enforcement, community engagement, and data-informed strategies is meant to deter unsafe driving practices.
“We use Road Shark as an opportunity to remind our residents that our police officers are out there spending a little bit of extra time trying to make our roadways safe,” said Robert Blakley, FCPD’s assistant chief for police operations, when the 2025 campaign launched.
This year’s campaign included five week-long “waves” of enforcement, beginning in March. The waves targeted behaviors like aggressive driving, speeding, impaired driving, and school zone violations.
The final wave ran from October 13 to 19 and resulted in 10,565 citations and warnings. These including more than 900 speeding violations.
In total, the 2025 Road Shark campaign issued 49,304 citations — a 43 percent increase from 2024, when officers issued 34,687 citations.
