Driver Alert: The Ramp at I-66 and Fairfax County Parkway Will Temporarily Close

The interchange will close on several nights, beginning on July 15, for paving.

Weather permitting, construction crews will begin paving the I-66 and Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) interchange staring tonight, July 15. The ramp will be closed on multiple evenings starting at 11 p.m. and will reopen the following day at 4 a.m.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says drivers should follow posted detour signs.

On July 15 and 16, the northbound Fairfax County Parkway ramp to westbound I-66 will be closed. Traffic will be detoured via northbound Fairfax County Parkway, westbound Fair Lakes Parkway, and southbound Fairfax County Parkway back to westbound I-66.

On July 16 and 17, the westbound I-66 ramp to southbound Fairfax County Parkway (Exit 55A to Springfield) is closed. Traffic will be detoured prior to the closed ramp via the westbound I-66 ramp to northbound Fairfax County Parkway (Exit 55B to Herndon), northbound Fairfax County Parkway, and westbound Fair Lakes Parkway back to southbound Fairfax County Parkway.

On July 17 and 20, the southbound Fairfax County Parkway ramp to westbound I-66 is closed. Traffic will be detoured via southbound Fairfax County Parkway, northbound Route 29, and northbound Fairfax County Parkway back to westbound I-66.

On July 21 and 22, the westbound I-66 collector/distributor lane between northbound Fairfax County Parkway off-ramp (Exit 55B to Herndon) and the southbound Fairfax County Parkway on-ramp will close.

Westbound I-66 traffic headed for southbound Fairfax County Parkway (Exit 55A to Springfield) will be detoured prior to the ramp via the ramp to northbound Fairfax County Parkway, and westbound Fair Lakes Parkway back to southbound Fairfax County Parkway.

Northbound Fairfax County Parkway traffic headed for westbound I-66 will be detoured via northbound Fairfax County Parkway, westbound Fair Lakes Parkway, and southbound Fairfax County Parkway back to westbound I-66.

On July 22 and 23, the eastbound I-66 ramp to northbound Fairfax County Parkway (Exit 55B to Herndon) will be closed. Traffic will be detoured via the eastbound I-66 ramp to southbound Fairfax County Parkway (Exit 55A to Springfield), and northbound Route 29 back to northbound Fairfax County Parkway.

Drivers can access Northern Virginia traffic, work zone, and incident information online at 511.vdot.virginia.gov, via the free mobile 511Virginia app, or by calling 511.
