Reagan National Airport will halt takeoffs and landings for several hours during the June 14 parade in Washington, DC. The parade is a celebration of the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday (and coincides with President Donald Trump’s birthday).
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority posted an announcement that the FAA will suspend airline operations at DCA on the evening of June 14 “to accommodate aircraft flyovers along the parade route, followed by a fireworks display.”
While MWAA did not announce specific hours, The Washington Post reported that an FAA briefing document said the disruptions would be between approximately 6 and 9:30 p.m. And about 100 flights will be held at their departure and delayed for about three hours.
Passengers should check on flight status directly with their airline, MWAA says. Traffic delays and road closures could also increase travel time.
MWAA also discourages people from parking at DCA to attend the parade or view the fireworks.
The June 14 events will include a festival on the mall, a “grand military parade” down Constitution Avenue, and a fireworks display. It will feature about 130 vehicles, 9,000 soldiers, and will cost up to about $45 million to execute, including an estimated $16 million to repair damage to DC streets, NBC News reported.
