A recent National Night Out event was a successful police community-building venture in more ways than one.
At the August 4 event in Reston, a Fairfax County Police Department detective was speaking with a community member who provided video of a man entering an unlocked vehicle. Detectives were able to identify the suspect and arrest him in connection with multiple burglaries and vehicle-related thefts in the Reston Police District.
Officers arrested Junior Gonzales-Coello, 31, of no fixed address, on August 18. During the arrest, detectives also recovered an AR-15-style rifle and magazines. FCPD determined the firearm had been stolen approximately one hour earlier after Gonzales-Coello entered a vehicle and an open garage in the 1900 block of Crescent Park Drive in Reston.
Gonzales-Coello was charged with 18 counts, include four counts of vehicle trespass, three counts of burglary, and three counts of grand larceny. FCPD also served him with five outstanding warrants from another jurisdiction. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held without bond.
