The 2025 NFL draft took place this weekend, and two of Northern Virginia’s own heard their names called. Here’s what you need to know about NoVA natives Tyleik Williams and Robert Longerbeam, who will be suiting up for two different NFL teams this upcoming season.
Tyleik Williams, Detroit Lions
Ohio State defensive tackle Tyleik Williams, who played football for Unity Reed High School in Manassas, was selected by the Detroit Lions with the 28th overall pick in this year’s NFL draft. At Ohio State, Williams was a Walter Camp Second-Team All-American and a Third-Team All-Big Ten for two years. He won a national championship as a major contributor in Ohio’s title win. In his final two seasons, he amassed 100 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 18 tackles for loss. Playing under head coach Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions, which ranked fifth in rush defense, Williams is likely to see significant minutes next season.
Robert Longerbeam, Baltimore Ravens
Rutgers defensive back Robert Longerbeam went to the Baltimore Ravens with the 212th pick in the sixth round. Robert played football for Alexandria City High School (formerly T.C. Williams High School) under his father and head coach of Woodbridge High School Jimmy Longerbeam. Longerbeam had three seasons with double-digit pass breakups and was a two-time All-Big Ten honorable mention. He totaled 154 tackles and five interceptions, performing well at the East-West Shrine Bowl. Longerbeam earned an invite to the NFL Combine, taking All-Combine Defensive Team honors and ranking first in broad jump amongst corners and sixth in the 40-yard-dash. His competitiveness and combine grades are likely why the Ravens drafted him.
