Get Your Real ID, Without a Trip to the DMV

These pop-up events offer many of the same services as a standard DMV office.

Do you have your Real ID yet? The deadline to get the upgraded driver’s license to use for domestic travel is May 7.

With the deadline coming up, many DMV locations have long lines and scarce appointment times. Some pop-up events at public facilities in Northern Virginia are planned in the coming weeks to help.

These pop-ups are called DMV Connect, and they allow people to get many of the same services they would normally find at the DMV. They are planned for places like libraries and community centers. Depending on the event, services are available for walk-ins or by appointment.

If you want to get your Real ID before the May 7 deadline, here are two DMV Connect events happening in NoVA:

Chantilly Regional Library

April 29, 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m., 1:30–3:30 p.m.

By walk-in and appointments.

4000 Stringfellow Rd., Chantilly

Dulles South Public Safety Center

May 5, 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., 1:30–3:30 p.m.

By walk-in and appointments.

25216 Loudoun County Pkwy., Chantilly

Or, if you’re not flying right away, and have more wiggle room to get your Real ID, there are a few Connect events that are shortly after the deadline.

VFW Post 8469

May 14, 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m., 1:30–4 p.m.

By appointment only.

5703 Vogue Rd., Fairfax Station

Howell Branch Library

May 28, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

By walk-in and appointments.

806 Lyons Blvd., Fredericksburg

Before you go, you can start the application process on the Virginia DMV website. Then finish it by bringing the required documents to the DMV or a DMV Connect event.
