News coming out of the California wildfires has been devastating. The Palisades and Eaton wildfires in California have become two of the top five most destructive fires in California’s history. As of January 10, the fires have displaced over 180,000 people. With the Santa Ana winds expected to return this week, the fight to contain the blazes continues.
Even though we are on opposite coasts, Northern Virginians can help those affected by the fires. Here are a few organizations accepting donations to support the wildfire victims and first responders.
World Central Kitchen
Chef Jose Andres’ World Central Kitchen is on the ground helping first responders and families affected by the wildfires. Donations will go directly to help provide meals to those in need.
American Red Cross
Donations will help the organization provide safe shelters, food and supplies, and medical care to those in the path of the wildfires.
California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund
Funds donated to this nonprofit will go towards helping the impacted communities’ long-term recovery plans, from rebuilding essential infrastructure to providing housing and case management services.
California Fire Foundation
The foundation provides support to firefighters, families of fallen firefighters, victims of wildfires, and the community.
Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation
The nonprofit is accepting donations to help fund equipment and tools needed for the over 100 LAFD stations to battle the wildfires.
Pasadena Humane
While the humane society isn’t in need of material goods at the moment, donations will help continue its search and rescue work and provide care to pets that were lost in the fire or left behind.
Salvation Army
Volunteers and professionals at Salvation Army have set up multiple relief centers to provide basic needs, like food and drinks; bedding; emergency shelter; first aid; and mental, emotional, and spiritual care to evacuees.
