Smithsonian’s New Giant Pandas Enjoy First Snow Day in DC

Watch Bao Li and Qing Bao frolic in the snow in a video from the National Zoo.

Who doesn’t love a good snow day? The Smithsonian National Zoo’s new pair of giant pandas certainly do.

Bao Li and Qing Bao experienced their first snowfall in their new home yesterday, and the zoo posted a video of the bears enjoying the wintry weather.

“Flakes stuck to their fur as the bears frolicked and somersaulted. It was paws-itively the panda *snowment* of our dreams,” a post from the zoo read.

Bao Li and Qing Bao can be seen rolling around in roughly 5 inches of fluffy snow, rolling down hills, and playing with sticks of bamboo and toys.

The pandas arrived in Washington, DC, in October, and their exhibit has remained closed to visitors. The panda exhibit will open from January 10 to 19 for zoo members and on January 24 for the general public.

The zoo closed to the public yesterday due to inclement weather and remains closed today, January 7.
