The store has anchored the shopping center for more than 60 years.

The Giant Food that anchors the Lyon Village Shopping Center in Arlington will only be open another week, the grocery chain said. The store will close on February 29.

The closing of the store at 3115 Langston Blvd. comes after more than 60 years.

“In the normal course of evaluating our business and local trade areas, we determined that we can adequately serve this community through several other nearby Giant Food locations as well as our online services Giant pickup and delivery,” the company said in an emailed statement. “While closing this location, we remain committed to meeting the needs of our customers and providing them the best service.”

The statement goes on to say: “We want to express our sincere gratitude to the Arlington community for their support over the 60 years that Giant Food has been a part of this neighborhood, and we look forward to welcoming our shoppers at our other local Giant Food locations.”

Giant Food said the store’s workers have been given the chance to transfer to other locations. “We are committed to supporting our employees through this transition and ensuring that they have continued opportunities within our company,” Giant said.

The next closest Giant Food is about a mile away at 3450 Washington Blvd. in Virginia Square.

Other stores in the Lyon Village Shopping Center include CVS, The Italian Store, Starbucks, and Big Wheel Bikes.
