Fredericksburg will recognize Huntley’s big win on The Voice with a procession through downtown and a pep rally at the FredNats stadium on Sunday, January 21.
The City of Fredericksburg declared that day “Huntley Day.”
“Huntley credits his connection to the Fredericksburg community as an important part of his musical journey and it’s only fitting that his hometown supporters join in the celebration!” a news release said.
Huntley, a Fredericksburg native, won $100,000 and a recording contract in December on Season 24 of the singing competition. He was one of five finalists for whom fans voted.
The homecoming event will not be a concert, but it will raise awareness and money for Loisann’s Hope House, Fredericksburg’s largest and oldest family homeless shelter. The selection of Loisann’s Hope House came at Huntley’s request, a news release said.
While not all of the specifics for “Huntley Day” have been worked out, at 1 p.m. Huntley will ride in a limo, leading a procession past venues where he has performed in downtown Fredericksburg. The procession is expected to last until 2:30 p.m.
At 3 p.m. a one-hour pep rally–style event will be held at the Virginia Credit Union Stadium.
While admission is free, you do need to RSVP to go since there is limited capacity at the 5,000-seat stadium. Admission is limited to four people per email address, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
The event will be held rain or shine, so dress appropriately. There will not be concessions open at the stadium, and no food or drink can be brought in.
The stadium at 42 Jackie Robinson Way in Fredericksburg will open at 2:30 p.m. Those attending are encouraged to arrive early. Parking at the stadium is free.
