95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension Access Points Opening Soon

The access points will make it easier for workers at Quantico to get to the 95 Express Lanes.

By Colleen Kelleher November 28, 2023 at 10:48 am

The final access points of the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension are set to open for the morning rush hours on December 8, according to Transurban North America, the operator of the lanes.

The lanes will open at 10 p.m. December 7. Drivers will be able to get to the 95 Express Lanes using a reversible ramp from Courthouse Road/Route 630 in Stafford County. There will be a northbound exit from and southbound entrance to Interstate 95’s lanes near Marine Corps Base Quantico. Northbound traffic from Routes 3 and 17 will have access at the southern terminus.

“All of us at Transurban are thrilled to complete the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension, bringing the full benefits of the Express Lanes to even more residents of Stafford County, Fredericksburg, and the surrounding region,” said Amanda Baxter, senior vice president of Virginia market and operations for Transurban North America, in a news release.

“With direct access for 28,000 workers to Quantico, quick routes to growing regional commercial and residential hubs, and $1 billion in economic impact, the Fredericksburg Extension connects our communities to faster, more reliable travel along the Main Street of the East Coast.”

At the same time as the new access points open at 10 p.m. on December 7, 2023, the southbound ramp from the I-95 general-purpose lanes to the 95 Express Lanes near the Opitz Boulevard Bridge project in Prince William County will close permanently. On December 8 during the day, the new southbound Dale Boulevard ramp opens and replaces that access point.

The 10-mile extension of the Express Lanes opened on August 17. As of November 1, there have been 750,000 trips, with more than 16 percent taking advantage of the HOV-3+ toll exemption.

The Fredericksburg Extension, Transurban North America said, is used by more than 15 percent of 95 Express Lanes users.

The Express Lanes save about 35 minutes in commuting time from DC to Fredericksburg, Transurban North America said.
