Springfield Teacher Charged with Possession of Child Pornography

The Irving Middle School Teacher previously taught in Franconia.

By Laura Scudder May 25, 2022 at 5:02 pm

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) arrested a 28-year-old Springfield woman on May 19 for possession of child pornography. The arrest came after detectives executed a search warrant of her home in the 6800 block of Meteor Place in Springfield.

Police arrested and charged the woman, Kristine Knizner, with two counts of possession of child pornography. She was taken to the Adult Detention Center and released on a $2,000 bond.

At the time of her arrest, Knizner was working as a teacher at Irving Middle School in Springfield, and was previously a teacher at Key Middle School in Franconia. The victims in the child sexual abuse material do not appear to be related to her employment with Fairfax County Public Schools, according to FCPD.

The investigation began on May 17 after detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau’s Cyber/Child Exploitation Squad received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

NCMEC told FCPD detectives that a Snapchat account with associated with a Fairfax County IP address possessed child sexual abuse material. Detectives then determined the IP address returned to Knizner’s apartment, where she was the sole occupant.

“I greatly appreciate the work of our Major Crimes, Cyber and Forensics detectives and analysts. These crimes have no place in our society and certainly not here in Fairfax County,” Major Crimes, Cyber and Forensics Bureau Chief Ed O’Carroll said. He noted that FCPD detectives have received 124 tips from NCMEC since February.

Anyone with information regarding other cases involving Knizner or any cases of child exploitation is asked to contact the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 6. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Solvers.
