The Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD) is offering a $6,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect involved in a April 15 shooting in Woodbridge. The investigation is ongoing.
PWCPD describes the suspect as a “Black male, tall with a thin build” who was “last seen wearing a red sweatshirt with white writing on the sleeve and white writing on the chest, black pants, and white sneakers.”
Last month’s shooting occurred at a carnival held at Gar-Field High School on Smoketown Rd. The initial investigation revealed that two groups left the carnival and had an argument in the parking lot. During the encounter, multiple gunshots were fired, and the groups left on foot. The sounds of gunfire caused carnival attendees to flee.
A 14-year-old girl was shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Officers found the girl with a gunshot wound in the abdomen yards away from where the shots were fired. PWCPD did not say how many people were involved in the argument between the two groups, and says it’s unknown if the 14 year old is known by or affiliated with those arguing.
Police recovered multiple shell casings in the parking lot yards away from where the shooting occurred. No one else was injured, but a bullet struck an involved vehicle as the driver was leaving the carnival. Witnesses reported seeing someone flee toward Smoketown Rd. after the shooting, according to PWCPD.
The reward is being offered in partnership with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ Washington field division. PWCPD is asking that anyone with information call the tip line at 703-792-7000 or submit a tip online to pwcva.gov/policetip.
