The Crystal City Improvement District has officially launched its new name, logo and website, and you might recognize it from an announcement earlier this year. National Landing BID is now officially a location in Northern Virginia.
As of June 22, National Landing Business Improvement District now encompasses Crystal City, Potomac Yard and Pentagon City, totaling nearly 12 million square feet of office space, a walkable urban center that includes more than 26,000 residents, an estimated 5,900 hotel rooms and over 450 restaurants and shops.
The name change, announced this morning at a virtual meeting, was inspired by two main motivators: the BID’s enlarged boundaries to include additional Arlington neighborhoods and the upcoming arrival of Amazon’s HQ2.
“The organization’s adoption of the National Landing name is the culmination of a robust, years-long community engagement process in which the BID sought and received positive feedback from residents, civic associations and stakeholders, and attained approval from the Arlington County Board,” the recent press release stated.
The organization’s new logo features an iconic “N” made up of bright yellow, blue and green, meant to showcase the area’s access to Metrorail lines, as well as the area’s natural green spaces and parks, and the water of the Potomac River running nearby.

“In a nod to National Landing’s unparalleled connectivity, the logo’s clean, rounded edges reflect transit systems, the airport and motion. To reinforce the unified spirit of the area, all three neighborhood names are included in the logo,” the press release stated.
Residents and visitors can access the organization’s new website here, which includes a new video, welcoming all to National Landing, as well as get a look at the organization’s future plans and access local guides to farmers markets and local events.
In prepared remarks, National Landing BID President and Executive Director Tracy Sayegh Gabriel said, “At nearly 1 square mile or 60 blocks, an expanded BID geography enables us to promote the area’s unified identity as a vibrant, nationally recognized urban center and to shape and manage growth and investment in ways that enhance the quality of life for those who live, work and visit here … The National Landing area is poised to serve existing and future residents, employees and visitors who appreciate a community that offers convenience, urban amenities and a vibrant and transforming public realm.”
She also stated that the organization is committed now more than ever to supporting local small businesses who have been impacted (and continue to be impacted) through the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as inclusion, diversity and equality.
Arlington County Board Chair Libby Garvey spoke at the virtual meeting as well, echoing Gabriel’s calls for community in these times of hardship. “As we come through this, we are going to be a stronger Arlington, more equitable, more innovative and more resilient,” she said. “There is no place I’d rather be in the world than here in Arlington, and a lot of that right now is simply because of this community. We are strong, we are smart and we are caring.”
