The National Park Service is developing plans for Claude Moore Colonial Farm’s next chapter

The recently closed living-history museum will be reborn, and the NPS is seeking public input on what should happen next.

Claude Moore Colonial Farm, located on an area of land at Turkey Run Park in McLean, is getting a second chance, thanks to the National Park Service (NPS).

On March 21, the National Park Service announced it will develop plans for the federal land at the colonial-style farm, which closed in December 2018 after disputes with park officials. Claude Moore Colonial Farm’s closing was a result of arguments between it and the Park Service over the farm’s funding and relationships with private contractors.

Claude Moore used to host daily colonial-themed programming for many years, and the buildings are currently closed to the public, although the public can still enjoy the trails at Turkey Run Park.

NPS is seeking public comment on the future use of the land, and is hosting an open house discussion on April 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Madison Community Center to help decide what should happen next with the property, and when. NPS also mentioned that the land will not be used for commercial development.

The public can also provide feedback online or via mail, beginning on April 25. After public discussions, NPS will develop a range of concepts for Claude Moore and will then share the plans to the public for feedback.
