Lyft is offering free rides to local black history sites throughout February

In honor of Black History Month, Lyft is offering free rides to museums, memorials and more.

By Holly Gambrell February 12, 2019 at 5:08 pm

Lyft is encouraging riders to celebrate Black History Month by visiting black history museums, memorials and black-owned businesses. Through February, the ride-sharing company is offering one free ride, up to $10, for passengers traveling to the cultural sites.

Local riders can use code BHMDCA19 anytime this month to go to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture, Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum, Smithsonian National Museum of African Art and Alexandria Black History Museum.

The ride must begin or end at the participating location to qualify for the discount. Codes expire on Feb. 28, at 11:59 p.m. There is a limit of one code per Lyft account.

Lyft is also celebrating its one-year anniversary of its partnership with Black Girls Code, an organization increasing the representation of African-American women in technology by providing girls with coding skills. The effort has raised over $350,000 to date, and riders can support the organization by opting into Lyft’s Round Up and Donate program.
