House Democrats stage gun control sit-in; Loudoun County, Leesburg, Purcellville and Middleburg see decreases in crime

Civil rights leader and Georgia Rep. John Lewis led House Democrats in a sit-in on the floor of Congress on Wednesday, calling for a vote on gun control legislation. Early Thursday morning, House Republicans voted to adjourn until after the July 4 holiday.

In 2015, Loudoun County, Leesburg, Purcellville and Middleburg respectively experienced 5.5, 2, 6 and 38 percent decreases in crime.

An Arlington County Police officer approached a stopped car on Washington Boulevard near Fort Myer on Wednesday, and the driver drew a handgun and fired several shots before shooting himself. The driver was pronounced dead while the officer reportedly escaped without injury.
