Raise the trumpets. Cue the floats. At the end of this month, members of Alexandria’s Potomac Fiber Arts Gallery will collaborate in studio 18 of the Torpedo Factory Art Center for the “Parades” exhibit, the seventh of 10 gallery shows this year. Starting July 28 and culminating on Aug. 30, selected artists will display their interpretations of Independence Day festivities and fanfare.

Akin to the eclectic mix of elements found in a parade, gallery artists will present a diverse display of fiber art, including both accessories and home goods. Attendees can expect to see scarves, jewelry, purses, rugs and wall hangings. And although the gallery’s selected focal point for this exhibit is “Parades,” visitors can also expect to see many pieces outside this subject area.

Artwork submitted for the exhibit will be assessed for quality by a duo of jurors in mid-June and at the end of July. Fiber fanatics can expect exhibits on “What I Did on My Summer Vacation,” “Safari” and “Winter Wonderland” later this year. –Emily Cook
