A home with clean lines is a find to hold on to. Taking that concept to its logical end, developer Ahmad Khreshi created what he named the De Stijl house, inspired by the art movement that most famously includes Piet Mondrian as a practitioner (you know, the painter whose most famous work is a grid of white blocks, with a couple yellow and red blocks thrown in there to liven it up).
The McLean residence isn’t some icy, Scandinavian-feeling industrial warehouse, however, in case that’s what you’re thinking. The architect has softened it with nods to Frank Lloyd Wright, through local white oak and maple trees making up a hefty part of the building materials, and a spa pool taking center stage in an enclave formed by the house’s curving exterior.
On the market for $8.7 million in McLean, Virginia, it’s an eight-bath, four-bedroom marvel of a single-family home for those who want modern without losing comfort.

Shou Sugi Ban Yakisugi wood siding breaks up a linear exterior, striking a similar balance between organic and artificial forms as the geometrical pool.

The open-concept great room retains a beamed ceiling from the original house. The centerpiece is a 10-foot-wide gas fireplace.

The house features expansive windows and extensive smart devices (smart shower, smart bath, a built-in espresso machine in the kitchen), which, Sims-style, just make daily life a little better.

The striking loft is one of the best examples of the home’s bold design still managing to feel comfortable, perfect for a sunny family room.

The spiral steel-and-wood staircase runs through multiple floors, and is probably the most impressive “home of the future” feature of the property.
