New residential properties are coming to Herndon, Alexandria and Arlington.
Junction Square Takes Off in Herndon
A partnership with Traditional Homes and McWilliams Ballard is in the process of transforming the historic downtown of Herndon. The luxury townhomes, 20 in total, come in varying layouts—three or four bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths with two-car garages—with modern, open floorplans up to 3,000 square feet. Bonuses include rooftop terraces and some units with lofts. And while these homes, which opened for delivery and sale late last year, are the centerpiece of the project, the mixed-use project is also bringing 5,000 square feet of retail space.
The Gateway at King & Beauregard Moving Forward
Weingarten Realty received a go-ahead from the City of Alexandria to get moving on foundation work for the Gateway at King & Beauregard, a 500,000-square-foot mixed-use development consisting of three buildings and a public plaza. Key features will include 352 residential units, 74 of which will be affordable housing units, 71,000 square feet of office space and ground-floor retail, including a Harris Teeter. Also on site will be a Bus-Rapid-Transit Stop, public art and a Capital Bikeshare station.
Ballston Church Set for Redevelopment to Include Housing
In late February the Arlington County Board approved a site plan for Central United Methodist Church to be rebuilt with mixed uses in mind, including a new church, day care facility, multi-family apartments and public art space to hold the Tiffany stained glass window that was part of the Abbey Mausoleum in Arlington. The existing church will become an eight-story building with two levels of underground parking. The first two floors will house a day care facility for up to 100 children and a 200-seat church along with space for charitable church activities (counseling and food and clothing services for the homeless). One hundred and nineteen apartments—48 being affordable housing units—will complete the rest of the upper levels.
