Spring is here and for many that means it’s time to spring clean and declutter.
“Spring cleaning can be incredibly beneficial to both our physical and mental well-being, helping us to feel refreshed and rejuvenated as we transition into a new season,” says Angela Nguyen, professional home organizer and owner of Bring It Home Style, which serves all of Loudoun and Fairfax counties.

Implement Strategic Sorting
“This is all about categorizing items into broad groups such as clothes, books, and kitchen gadgets,” says Nguyen.
This method not only helps you to maintain focus but also prevents that dreaded decision fatigue.
“Personally, I swear by the ‘keep, donate, discard’ mantra,” Nguyen adds. “If it’s not serving a purpose or bringing you joy, it’s time to bid it farewell. Allow your clutter to become someone else’s treasure.”
Break It into Zones
Nguyen also suggests looking at your home in terms of zones.
“Instead of overloading yourself by tackling the entire house at once, break it down into manageable zones,” she says.
Start with high-traffic areas, like the kitchen and living room, then gradually work your way to less frequently used spaces.
“By focusing on one zone at a time, you’ll maintain a sense of control and avoid feeling overwhelmed,” Nguyen says.
Divide and Conquer
You can also break your cleaning tasks up into categories, such as decluttering, dusting, and deep cleaning, Nguyen says.
“Tackling one category at a time keeps you laser-focused and helps you make progress more efficiently,” she says.
Plus, checking completed categories off your list may be both satisfying and motivating.

“Instead, invest in high-quality essentials like microfiber cloths and versatile all-purpose cleaners to help streamline your spring-cleaning routine,” Nguyen says.

Invest in storage solutions that make the most use out of a space while minimizing clutter.
“Whether it’s under-bed storage bins, vertical shelving units, or hanging organizers, the right storage solutions can transform your space and make cleaning a breeze, as you will know where to put all the items that are causing clutter,” Nguyen says.
The added benefit is that doing so can help make your space look more visually pleasing.
Create a Daily Decluttering Habit
Remember that consistency is key when maintaining an organized home year-round.
“Dedicate just 10 to 15 minutes each day to clearing up cluttered surfaces, putting away misplaced items, and straightening up high-traffic areas,” says Nguyen.
Or take this mindset a step further by designating a “clutter-free-zone” where you commit to putting things back in place daily.
“It takes just a few minutes each day but pays off big time, saving you hours of spring cleaning down the road,” Nguyen says.
