These yards are full of everything that goes bump in the night.

Haunting season is upon us. As we get closer and closer to Halloween, you’ll find more witches, goblins, and ghouls popping up around neighborhoods throughout the region. If you’re looking for more than jack-o-lanterns and scarecrows, visit the houses that have some of the best Halloween decorations across Northern Virginia.

Only the brave can make it through this walkthrough. This Alexandria house features 150 animatronics that surround every step as you navigate the winding trail. Creepy clowns, snarling werewolves, and sinister witches are just a few of the monsters and ghouls you’ll need to look out for when the sun goes down. The display is off when it rains, so double-check the forecast before heading out. 4401 Dolphin Ln., Alexandria

This pirate-themed yard isn’t just for looks because the display (seen above) also acts as a haunted house. Created using handmade props, the interactive display will be open from 7 to 10 p.m. October 25, 26, and 31. For those not looking for a scare, stop by on October 27 to check out all the little details without the worry of jump scares. 122 Hopeland Ln., Sterling

On All Hallows’ Eve, skeletons of all shapes and sizes come to life and descend on this Sterling home. Knights, mermaids, aliens, and plenty of animals come back from the land of the dead to wow (and frighten) Halloween lovers and trick-or-treaters. 316 N. Argonne Ave., Sterling

706 N. Jackson St., Arlington

All of North Jackson Street goes out for Halloween, but when you have a hearse in your front yard, that’s hard to beat. That’s just one detail that brings this funeral home/graveyard display to life. Coffins, skeletons, ghouls, and a grim reaper perched on the roof add to the spooky vibe created by the whole street. 706 N. Jackson St., Arlington

The display is open daily through October 31 from 6:30 p.m. to midnight. 40976 Maplehurst Dr., Aldie

One hundred Halloween animatronics spill out of this Sterling yard. Guests are allowed to walk around the front yard and driveway to get an up-close look at all the creatures, ghouls, and skeletons that make this display haunted. The animatronics are turned off at 9 p.m. each night and the display is closed when it rains. 11 Mucklehany Ln., Sterling

This annual display is going to be out of this world, literally. The closer we get to Halloween, the more aliens, flying saucers, and spaceships you’ll see invade the space alien-themed display. This season, The Historic Herndon House teamed up with The Beastro at Queens Row to create the ultimate space display, and invites others to join the space invasion. 610 Spring St., Herndon

The ever-changing display is sure to put a smile on your face. The crazy skeletons that make up the Falmouth display are constantly changing. Throughout the week, you’ll find different scenes on the front lawn, from a game of “the floor is lava” to scenes from Ghostbusters and The Addams Family. Its Facebook page is updated with the new creations, so you don’t have to miss a single setup. 11 Pendleton Rd., Falmouth

Every twist and turn of this lawn is filled with spooks. Stand your ground as you pass the 12-foot-tall giants at the front. Through the gates and spider-filled arch you go for a personal concert with Wednesday Addams and Cousin It — and some candy, of course. The home is collecting food donations for the Tree of Life Ministries, Leesburg food pantry. Visitors should park on the street and walk to the display. 807 MacAlister Dr. SE, Leesburg
