New DIY Home Improvement Training Facility Opens in Fair Oaks Mall

TradeWorx offers a variety of classes that teach homeowners how to tackle repairs and remodeling.

A new Fair Oaks Mall training center aims to teach homeowners about home improvement and remodeling. TradeWorx Academy says that through its classes, it works “to empower homeowners with the skills and confidence they need to tackle DIY repair and remodeling projects in their homes.”

TradeWorx opened its home improvement training center in Fair Oaks on July 28. It offers both lectures — such as how to vet your contactor — and hands-on workshops focused on power tools, tile and grouting, and drywall repair.

TradeWorx says its workshops are for lay people who want to learn how to DIY their own home improvement projects. They also cater to “professionals interested in honing their trade skills and corporate clients who want to gain insights into the tile trade, drywall repair, minor plumbing, and electrical work.”

Home improvement sessions are taught by licensed contractors who work in Northern Virginia. The fees range from $75 for a lecture session to $650 for a hands-on DIY remodeling class. Safety gear is provided for all of the workshop sessions, and participants must be at least 18 years old.

The Fair Oaks location is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. TradeWorx is closed on Sundays.
