10 fitness classes and events to charge up your weekend workout

From hitting the golf course to spending your weekend practicing yoga, these classes and events will make you break a sweat.

Now that those hot, humid days look to be in the past for the time being (fingers crossed), it is time to get outside and enjoy some fresh air this weekend. Stay active and add one of these 10 local fitness classes and events to your weekend workout.

Family Friday Fun Days

Friday, Aug. 7, 5 p.m.
Hit the golf course with the family for a fun golf outing. Get in your 18 holes before dinner to get the weekend started on a great note. // Algonkian Golf Course: 47001 Fairway Drive, Sterling; $24-$45.50, children 15 and younger play for free with paying adult

Women’s Self Defense Combatives Class

Friday, Aug. 7,  6-7 p.m.
This female-only self-defense class will make you feel confident and empowered. By the end of the hour, you’ll learn different strikes and how to defend yourself if being grabbed or pulled. // Premier Martial Arts: 9231 Sudley Road, Manassas; free

Pound and Pour

Friday, Aug. 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Join Home Turf Fitness for a high-intensity workout by Lake Manassas. After you spend an hour getting your sweat on, enjoy light refreshments and alcoholic beverages. All participants must be 21 years old to attend. // Saranac at Lake Manassas: off Glenkirk Road, Gainesville; $20

Sunset Yoga @ Harpers Ferry Brewing

Friday, Aug. 7, 7:30 p.m.
Relax after a stressful workweek with an hour-long yoga session along the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers as the day moves into twilight. All you need to bring is your mat. Morning SUP Yoga!

Saturday, Aug. 8,  8-10 a.m.
Get out on the water for your weekend workout. Test your balance and core strength as you take your yoga poses to the paddleboard. No experience is necessary, but all participants must know how to swim. // Paddle NOVA: Purcellville; $30-$45

Nikki’s Bootcamp

Saturday, Aug. 8, 9:30 a.m.
Start your Saturday off with an intense boot-camp workout. The class will be held outdoors and all attendees will be socially distanced. Participants are asked to bring a yoga mat. // Algonkian Regional Park: 47001 Fairway Drive, Sterling; $10

Outdoor Yoga Surfboard Workshop with Ellen

Saturday, Aug. 8, 4-5:30 p.m.
Workout some new muscles with Ease Outdoor Oasis’ yoga class. Take your practice to the water as you practice your vinyasas while trying to stay afloat. Reward yourself as you close out class with a relaxing gong-bath meditation. // Ease Yoga & Cafe: 3051 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria; $35-$40

The International Tee Time Tournament

Sunday, Aug. 9, 6:30 a.m.-noon

2020 Connect Our Kids 5k & 10k

Sunday, Aug. 9,  7:15-10:15 a.m.

Yoga & Mimosas
