When Matt Rodbard and Deuki Hong traveled around the country to research Koreatown: A Cookbook, the authors stopped in New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta and, of course, Annandale.
Though the only mention of NoVA is in an introduction: “… the night we searched for a near-mythic bossam restaurant in a driving rainstorm in a Northern Virginia suburb (we never did find it),” Rodbard still found plenty to eat here.
Unfortunately, he can’t remember the name of that ghost restaurant, but here are his favorites and what to order:
• Nak Won Restaurant for the gamjatang (pork and potato soup)
• Seoul Soondae Restaurant for soondae (blood sausage) and samgyetang (chicken soup)
• Ara Fusion Restaurant for pojangmacha (bar food) with duk (rice cake) and jwipo (fish jerky)
