There’s nothing that ushers dreary winter days out the door better than the awakening of cherry blossom trees. DC’s famous cherry blossoms tend to be in full bloom in March and April (predicted peak bloom is between March 22-25). For those who really want to bask in the pink glow of spring, there are a number of delicious cherry blossom food and drink offerings in Northern Virginia that will rival the sight of the trees themselves. Check out these cherry blossom-themed drinks and delights.
Astro Doughnuts
Astro Doughnuts serves up all-American favorites like fried chicken and doughnuts. It’s no surprise that it is dishing out cherry blossom doughnuts at its Falls Church and Northwest DC locations. The doughnut shop will offer a mini-cherry blossom box filled with 12 mini donuts, or you can order one regular size. The donuts are filled with a tart-red cherry jam and topped with a cream cheese glaze and chocolate and pink buttercream blossom decorations. 7511 Leesburg Pk., Falls Church; 1308 G St. NW, Washington, DC

King & Rye
Located near the waterfront in Old Town Alexandria, King & Rye specializes in seasonal Southern cuisine. Through April 30, the restaurant will offer cherry blossom-inspired specials, such as The Gin Blossom, a daiquiri make with cherry jam and fresh grapefruit juice. Its Fried Chicken Karage is a Japanese-Southern fusion appetizer topped with cherry-infused honey. It also will feature Roku gin as its spirit of the season, a single malt gin that has been award-winning in Japan since 1923. 480 King St., Alexandria

Dolci Gelati
An annual delight returns. This spring, Dolci Gelato will revive its popular cherry blossom gelato. The fan favorite promises a light floral flavor that won’t disappoint. 107 N. Fairfax St., Alexandria
