These Bakeries Have the Best Fresh-Baked Chocolate Chip Cookies in Northern Virginia

When you’re craving sweets, nothing beats a fresh, warm cookie straight out of the oven.

August 4 is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day. We rounded up five of the best bakeries in the area to grab the gooey, rich chocolatey goodness perfect for your next sweets craving.

Bakeshop

Bakeshop literally started in a local neighborhood — a kitchen in a home where their recipes were perfected before opening a location in Arlington in 2010. In 2019, they expanded to Falls Church and later Georgetown. Their chocolate chip cookies are to die for. Officially called “brown butter chocolate chunk,” the cookies are perfectly soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, just begging to be consumed with a tall glass of cold milk. 1025 N. Filmore St., Arlington; 100 E. Fairfax St., Falls Church

Buzz Bakeshop

If you’re constantly on the lookout for the ideal vegan chocolate chip cookie, you’ll want to check out this Alexandria bakery for their version. Buzz has been a neighborhood bakery for years, drawing many locals as regulars. The chewy, large circles of deliciousness are also offered in a chocolate chunk flavor, too. Both the vegan and regular chocolate chip cookies are reminiscent of after school cookies growing up. 901 Slaters Ln., Alexandria

Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe

This cozy, traditional bakery in Arlington has been around since 1975. They sell one pound of chocolate chip cookies for just $13. The cookies are thick and chocolatey, baked just right. Baker Wolfgang Buchler and his wife, Carla, have been providing chocolate chip cookies (and much, much more) for three generations now. 2150 N. Culpeper St., Arlington

Livin’ the Pie Life

I know what you’re thinking — how could a pie shop have good cookies? It’s true: Livin’ the Pie Life on North Glebe Road is home to some pretty fantastic chocolate chip cookies. Multiple reviews rave about them, with some asking what the bakery does to get so much semi-sweet and dark chocolate in the cookies. Another says there’s lots of “bests” about the shop, but the self-described cookie freak specifically mentioned the “giant” chocolate chip cookies. Don’t miss the peanut butter cookies either! 2166 N. Glebe Rd., Arlington

Crumbl Cookies

Crumbl Cookies locations keep popping up all over the area. While most of their flavors change weekly, there is one standard that stays put: milk chocolate chip. The cookie brand realizes it’s a classic, so you just can’t go wrong. They’re thick, soft, and packed with milk chocolate chips. Crumbl also offers catering, pickup, and delivery. Multiple locations
