Where to Warm Up With the Heartiest Brunches in Northern Virginia

From lemon ricotta blueberry pancakes to smoked gouda grits, these restaurants are serving warming breakfasts that are also incredible culinary experiences.

It may have taken a while to get there, but this winter is finally seasonably cold and snowy. What better way to warm up than a cozy and hearty brunch? Bookmark this page for next weekend’s brunch ideas.

The Pinemoor

The Pinemoor is a newish restaurant in Clarendon serving lots of comfort food perfect for these cold winter days we’ve been having. Their Saturday and Sunday brunch menu features are the best place to start. For sweets lovers, the chocolate-chunk pancakes are topped with whipped cream, powdered sugar, and maple syrup. Fans of savory foods, you’ll want to try the shrimp and smoked gouda grits with smoked ham, onions, peppers, and Cajun gravy. Warm up with an apple cider bellini for the perfect meal. 1101 N. Highland St., Arlington

Chloez Café

A hidden gem in Fairfax Station, Chloez Café is a family-owned restaurant open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. Breakfast is served any time and includes all the classic varieties—omelets, pancakes and eggs, bagels, bacon, and if you’re trying to stay healthier, smoothies. Chloez Choice smoothie is a delight, hearkening back to summertime with strawberries, mango, pineapple, and orange juice. The community restaurant is the perfect option to visit when you don’t feel like cooking breakfast and want to see some neighbors too! 5622 Ox Rd., Unit F, Fairfax Station

Bob & Edith’s Diner

Bob & Edith’s is a classic diner serving traditional brunch fare. Bob & Edith’s is celebrating 50 years in business and is family-owned and -operated. The original Arlington location has been a landmark since 1969. If you’re hungry post-sledding, ice skating, or other winter sport, order the steak and eggs, which includes either an eight-ounce ribeye or 10-ounce New York strip served with two country fresh eggs and your choice of home fries, grits, hash browns, and toast and jelly. If you’re in more of a lunch mood, order the iconic B&E Burger, a double cheeseburger with bacon and eggs. Take a slice of pie home too—there are eight varieties including a killer Snickers flavor. Five locations in Springfield, Crystal City, Columbia Pike, Huntington, Arlington, and North Arlington

Cheesetique

What says comforting, hearty food more than lots and lots of cheese? Cheesetique’s weekend brunch is full of mouthwatering cheesy options like lemon ricotta blueberry pancakes, a “brie and pearsciutto” sandwich, and the “mac ‘n cheesetique,” an award-winning combination of goat gouda, asiago, and cacio de roma with truffle-infused breadcrumbs. Warm up with Cheesetique’s classic tomato soup topped with shreds of New York cheddar. Yum. Two locations in Del Ray and Shirlington

Del Ray Café

If you are craving brunch food but don’t want to eat anywhere in-person just yet, the Del Ray Café has a great breakfast menu with lots of carryout options. Starters include warm buttery croissants with organic strawberry jam, warm homemade organic banana walnut bread, pumpkin bread with organic butter, or granola parfaits with organic yogurt, nuts, and fresh fruit. There are also tasty omelet and egg options too, including a fresh jumbo-lump-crabmeat eggs benedict, and create your own options with anything from swiss cheese to wild mushrooms to avocados. 205 E. Howell Ave., Alexandria
