Beer lovers and wine lovers can come together and enjoy the tastes and views at some of Northern Virginia’s winery-and-brewery combinations. And they’re family-friendly, too.
Barrel Oak Winery & Brewery
Sit on a picturesque hilltop and look out over 78 acres of rolling green landscape at this Delaplane spot, where you can sip award-winning wines like its sauvignon blanc and vidal blanc or beers like Chocolate Lab Porter Ale or Polo Yolo Golden Ale. Pets and kids are welcome. You can find a spot to sit inside or outside, and food options include Nordic-Knot Pretzels, Quattro Empanadas, and charcuterie. On Thursdays through Sundays, you can order pizza made on site by the Middleburg-based Knead Wine. 3623 Grove Ln., Delaplane
Hillsborough Winery, Brewery, and Vineyard
Relax indoors or in the Wine & Beer Garden while you try one of the lagers or ales made on site or red wines such as petit verdot, tannat, or cabernet sauvignon; whites like Roussanne and petit manseng; or rosé. (The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2021 Petit Verdot won gold medals in the 2024 Virginia Governor’s Cup Awards.) Dogs and children are welcome, and Bavarian pretzels are on the menu along with a variety of flatbreads. The winery and brewery are operated by three generations of the Baki family. 36716 Charles Town Pk., Hillsboro
Notaviva Farm Brewery & Winery
Guests have the chance to try a variety of drinks at this Loudoun County spot, says CEO Stephen Mackey, who’s both the brewer and winemaker. That includes small-batch beer and wine as well as cider and seltzer. Visitors take advantage of the opportunity: The most popular order in the tasting room is the mixed flight, where you can try any four drinks on a single paddle. Pets are allowed outdoors, and kids must be over the age of 16. Snacks are available to purchase, and you can bring your own food. 13274 Sagle Rd., Hillsboro
Quattro Goombas
Wine, beer, and fresh Sicilian pizza: What more could you need? The varietals here include cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot, cabernet franc, and petit manseng. The craft brews are made in a wide range of styles, from lagers and IPAs to Belgians. (The brewery has 20 taps.) You can order handmade pizza while it’s available or pick up a pizza kit to bring home and make it yourself. Kids are allowed in some parts of the property. Well-behaved dogs are allowed outdoors and inside the brewery. 22860 James Monroe Hwy., Aldie
Three Fox Vineyards & Brewery
This Delaplane winery-brewery offers its own great views and plenty of seating. Indoors, there are two bars and tables by the large windows. Outdoors, there’s a year-round deck or, seasonally, you can sit on the patio or at tables placed among the vines. The meadow and creek area provides a space for kids and dogs to run. For wines, several red blends and white varietals are offered, along with beers ranging from a pale ale and Belgian wit to a dark lager and oatmeal stout. Snacks are available and food trucks are on site most weekends. 10100 Three Fox Ln., Delaplane
