First Bite: Altos de Jalisco Delivers Mexican Zest to Ashburn

This family-owned Mexican restaurant offers vibrant flavors, large portions, and robust dishes.

Loudoun County’s south-of-the-border cuisine choices expanded with the recent opening of Altos de Jalisco in Ashburn. The family-owned Mexican grill offers cozy booths, multiple TVs displaying various sports, and an inviting bar.

Menu options are expansive, and we decided to give the tableside guacamole a try. Surprise: Our server arrived with a molcajete already prepared, not at the table. Nonetheless, the guac is tasty, brimming with cilantro and graced with a hint of lime.

Entrées are enormous. Our party embraced plentiful steak fajitas overflowing with delightfully seasoned beef and freshly sizzled peppers and onions. Standard accompanying rice and beans neither enhance nor deflect from the dish’s steak star power.

We found ourselves compelled to order the burrito Jalisco, which literally fills a rectangular plate and could feed a small army. Chefs took an “everything but the kitchen sink” approach when creating this powerhouse packed with steak, chicken, shrimp, and chorizo.

Topped with cheese dip, salsa verde, pico de gallo, and freshly sliced avocado, diners delight in a medley of rich flavors and tantalizing sauce embellishments. Dessert options are limited, but the cinnamon-laced churros impress.

Servers are efficient and welcoming at this pleasant new spot in an upscale Ashburn strip mall. The next time you’re craving some classic Mexican fare, give Altos de Jalisco a visit. 20035 Ashbrook Commons Plz., Ste. 147, Ashburn
