Meaty Monday: The Qui Korean Grille

An inexpensive all-you-can eat deal goes beyond the basics in Chantilly.

By Alice Levitt March 1, 2021 at 7:00 am

In my mind, there are two kinds of Korean barbecue spots. There are the restaurants that I visit for quality meat and ginger service, then there are the all-you-can-eat places. The latter can be raucous affairs, a blur of searing flesh and K-Pop. The Qui Korean Grille—which opened next door to Château de Chantilly at the end of 2020—does offer more refined combo meals, but its raison d’être is its all-you-can-eat option.

For $24, diners can do their best to eat their way through 22 menu items in their allotted 90-minute window. The size of the bill of fare means that options go beyond brisket and bulgogi, though both of those are available. But why order the classic version when there’s orange bulgogi? The tropical flourish makes the already appealing meat irresistible. I ate every grill-crisped morsel. The same can be said for the cumin-crusted pork belly, seared in large slabs before the server cuts it into slices to finish cooking.

But my favorite thing to eat at The Qui is cheese. Yes, cheese. There’s no corn cheese on the menu, but grill-crisped gooey chunks of salty white cheese more than make up for it. Dipped in a gochujang-based hot sauce, then rolled in a pink slice of pickled radish, they’re a cheese-lover’s fantasy.

But diners shouldn’t squander every bit of capacity on meat and cheese. The banchan, including sesame broccoli and sweet potato salad, are worthy bites, too. And the presence of the Château next door looms large. Hey, you’re already having a caloric splurge. Why not enhance it with a chocolate-lined blueberry tart?// 13972 Metrotech Dr., Chantilly
