I have a problem. A craving that just won’t seem to go away. I’ll admit it. I’m powerless to the gyro at Sheesh Grill.
It’s not often that I get to have an off-the-clock meal, but when I do, you can probably find me at the Chantilly location of the not-so-fast casual restaurant, which also has a store in the Mosaic District.
There are plenty of appealing options, all halal, including everything from a Nashville hot chicken sandwich to chef Taraneh Salehi’s Persian specialties like borani bademjan and fereni. But when I go to Sheesh Grill, it is always for the same thing. I need a dose of vitamin G(yro).
The meat is crisped on a spit as it should be. And there’s a lot of it. It’s available over rice or salad, but since I’m already splurging, I get it in the wrap. The flatbread is more like a soft flour tortilla than a pita, allowing for an enviably tight roll that also includes skinny slices of cucumber, tomato, onion and some spring mix. I get it with more salad on the side, along with the liltingly spicy chickpeas in a tomato-based sauce. Alternating dips into the garlicky white sauce and herbaceous green one keep each bite fresh.
I guess if an ideally seasoned gyro is my vice, that’s not so terrible. As long as I can keep up with my busy eating schedule, a bite at Sheesh Grill probably won’t get in the way of me living a productive life.// Multiple locations
